The skills involving the use of hands and especially the synchronization of hands and fingers with the eyes, start developing from the moment children start grabbing objects and manipulating them, basic abilities that will become more complex in the next few years. Children will then become more independent and need less help from the adults to perform usual tasks such as eating or getting dressed. Afterwards, they will be able to express their own ideas and the way the see the world, by drawing and later on, writing. The motivation acquired by performing visual arts, using materials that stimulate the senses (different textures, shapes, colours, etc.) help develop children’s imagination and manual dexterity, which are fundamental for an adequate and balanced development.
